Newcastle set to bring Veiga back to Europe after his move to Saudi Arabia

Nearly two years ago, Celta midfielder Gabri Veiga made a controversial switch to Saudi side Al-Ahli, a move that drew heavy criticism. As early as last winter, he was already contemplating a return to Europe, and that comeback could happen any moment now.
Details: According to Foot Mercato, Newcastle are interested in the 22-year-old midfielder, having tracked Veiga last summer as well. Back then, his contract with Celta had a €40 million release clause, and Manchester City were also in the mix. Ultimately, Veiga opted for the Saudi Pro League.
Celta are keen to re-sign him but may struggle to meet his current wage demands. Atletico Madrid are reportedly in the race too, but Newcastle have already reached out to Veiga’s agent, Pini Zahavi, who has outlined the terms for a potential transfer.
For the record: Veiga faced significant backlash for his move to Saudi Arabia, most notably from Toni Kroos, who called the decision "shameful" on Instagram, citing a lack of sporting ambition.
