Newcastle United's first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope has made up his mind regarding his future at St. James' Park. The Englishman is ready to battle for his spot in the starting lineup, despite the club's active search for a new shot-stopper.
Details: According to Football Insider, the 34-year-old goalkeeper intends to stay at the club and fight to remain the number one. Earlier reports suggested that the Magpies’ management had agreed on transfers for new keepers—specifically, Lukasz Gorniacek and Even Jowen—for a combined fee of around £50 million. This cast doubt on Pope’s future at Newcastle, with Scottish giants Celtic expressing interest. Nevertheless, Pope has no plans to leave the club this summer.
Nick Pope has worn the Newcastle shirt since the summer of 2022 following his transfer from Burnley. Last season, the experienced goalkeeper missed several matches due to injury, but he remains one of the key leaders in the dressing room, having kept seven clean sheets. The Englishman’s current deal with the Magpies runs until June 2027, and the reputable portal Transfermarkt values him at €5 million.
