Newcastle are ready to give up on the England defender. The club is looking for other options

Strengthening the centre of defence amidst heavy injuries to players is a sore subject for Newcastle, and the club are not prepared to wait to sign players in that position.

For instance, the Magpies have been linked with the signing of Crystal Palace central defender Mark Guehi for a long time now, but according to The Athletic, Newcastle have already started looking for alternatives to strengthen the centre of defence.

All because Crystal Palace do not show much desire to release the 24-year-old defender, despite the fact that Newcastle have sent to the club office already the third transfer offer. The Magpies do not intend to wait long, and they need a centre-back now.

Recall that a pair of Newcastle's main centre-backs Jamal Lascelles and Sven Botman are now recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture, and recovery may take until the end of 2024.
