New Zealand Police are reportedly investigating a member of the Cape Verde national football team over an alleged sexual assault incident said to have occurred during the FIFA Series tournament in March.
The alleged incident reportedly happened in Auckland following Cape Verde’s international fixture against Chile on March 27.
According to reports from local media, police confirmed that a complaint related to the matter was officially filed on April 10, 2026, and investigations are ongoing.
“New Zealand Police can confirm an allegation is under investigation, reported to us on 10 April 2026 in central Auckland."
So far, authorities have not released the identity of the player involved, while no charges have been confirmed as the investigation continues.
