New scandal? The media learned about Čeferin's plans to remain at the helm of UEFA New scandal? The media learned about Čeferin's plans to remain at the helm of UEFA

The current chairman of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Aleksandar Čeferin, and some of the organization’s employees want to change the charter in order to extend the mandate of the Slovenian functionary until 2031.

Sources told the Daily Mail that Čeferin and his supporters have been working on the plans for months and formally presented them at an executive committee meeting last weekend, with hopes of ratification at the UEFA congress next February.

The proposed amendments, which have not yet been seen publicly, will be put to a vote at the congress, where all 55 UEFA member countries will have the opportunity to make their choice.

To adopt the changes, a 2/3 vote of 28 countries will be required.

It is worth recalling the Slovenian functionary became UEFA president in September 2016 and was re-elected for a new term on February 7, 2019. Then all 55 votes were cast for him. Čeferin's term expires in 2027.
