New details have emerged regarding Messi's departure from Barcelona

In August 2021, Lionel Messi departed Barcelona and joined PSG, a transfer that truly shocked the entire sports world.

Journalist Jaume Rures revealed in an interview with Carrusel Deportivo that Barcelona's director Joan Laporta and La Liga president Javier Tebas had met and discussed extending Messi's contract. Rures stated that the contract for the extension was fully prepared, with the only missing element being Messi's signature. However, everything fell apart at the last moment.

"Economic and personal reasons converged, and I wouldn't put my hand in the fire to say which of them was more important. But, in any case, it seems to me that it wasn't just economic reasons," Rures explained.

Additionally, Messi's entourage pressured him, believing that Barcelona was not prepared to compete for major titles. Despite this, the Argentine still wanted to sign the contract and was ready to do so. When he returned from vacation, he was convinced that he would reach a new agreement.

However, as we know, this did not happen. Lionel Messi held a press conference where he announced his departure from Barcelona. The Argentine forward moved to PSG as a free agent.
