Chippa United’s technical staff overhaul continues as the club’s DStv Diski Challenge coach, Carlos Mtshamba, faces an uncertain future. His contract expires at the end of June, raising questions about whether he will remain with the Eastern Cape side.

This follows the departure of senior team coaches Thabo September and Mabhuti Khenyeza, whose contracts were not renewed. The club has already appointed Sinethemba Badela as the new first-team head coach for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Mtshamba, who joined Chippa in August 2024 on a one-year deal, was brought in to develop young talent, as emphasized by chairman Chippa Mpengesi. Beyond his club role, Mtshamba runs the Carlos Soccer Academy in East London, nurturing 80 players across various age groups. He is credited with unearthing Aphelele Teto, a rising star set to join Scotland’s Livingston FC.

Reports suggest several clubs in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and KZN are monitoring Mtshamba’s situation. His tenure at Chippa was challenging, with the reserve team struggling due to inconsistent training arrangements, as players often only gathered shortly before matches.

Amid these changes, Chippa United is undergoing a broader restructuring. The club recently named Sinesipho Mali as sporting director, doubling as Bafana Bafana’s head tactical analyst. Mali, a former Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United scout, is revamping the technical team to ensure smoother operations across all levels.
