Al-Ahli is on the verge of appointing a new head coach. According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, the Saudi club is in advanced talks with Spanish manager Marcelino García Toral.

The current boss, Matthias Jaissle, who has been at the helm since July 2023, is set to depart. During his tenure, the club clinched the AFC Champions League title twice. Reports indicate that the German coach will continue his career in the English Premier League, where he is expected to replace Eddie Howe as Newcastle’s head coach.

The leading candidate to fill the vacancy at Al-Ahli is Marcelino García Toral. Last season, the Spaniard guided Villarreal to a third-place finish in La Liga, securing a Champions League spot for the team. At the end of the campaign, the 60-year-old manager stepped down from his position.

It’s worth noting that Al-Ahli’s squad features a host of well-known footballers, including Francisco Trincão, Ivan Toney, and Édouard Mendy. The new season kicks off for Al-Ahli on August 13 with a first-round clash against Al-Diriyah.
