Ndidi Explains Kanu-Style Celebration After Tunisia Win

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has explained the meaning behind his eye-catching goal celebration in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Ndidi scored with a powerful header early in the second half, helping Nigeria gain control of a tense group-stage clash. After scoring, the captain recreated Nwankwo Kanu’s famous celebration from the 1996 Olympic Games.

Speaking after the match, Ndidi said the moment was dedicated to his father, a huge admirer of the former Super Eagles star. “The celebration came from my dad because he was always talking about Kanu Nwankwo,” he said, adding, “I just thought about my dad… and I said I was going to do it for my dad.”

Ndidi also impressed defensively, recording high passing accuracy and key recoveries in midfield, while the Beşiktaş man hopes to deliver more goals and celebrations before the tournament ends for Nigeria at AFCON.
