Kenya is set to welcome two giants of European football.

Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam will face off in a friendly match on 5 January 2027 in Nairobi, to mark the opening of the Talanta Stadium. The announcement was made by the Kenyan President, William Ruto.

This fixture will see the club of the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner take on Ajax Amsterdam. It will serve as the inaugural event for this new sports venue in the Kenyan capital, which is set to play an important role in hosting future international competitions.

Talanta Stadium is indeed expected to be among the venues selected for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host with Tanzania and Uganda. This friendly match between Bayern Munich and Ajax will therefore provide an initial showcase for the venue ahead of the continental tournament scheduled for the summer of 2027.
