In the second-round match of the prestigious ATP Masters series tournament in Madrid, Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal (ATP 512) defeated Australian Alex De Minaur (ATP 11).

The two players recently met at the Barcelona clay-court tournament, where De Minaur emerged victorious with a score of 7-5, 6-1. Nadal drew lessons from that defeat and tried to play more to his opponent's backhand, forcing him to make errors. The first set went to a tie-break, and although De Minaur saved four set points, he ultimately lost.

The second set saw slightly less intense competition. Nadal broke early in the set, which proved to be enough for him to secure the overall victory. In the third round, the Spaniard will face Argentine Pedro Cachin, who today defeated Frances Tiafoe in three sets.

It's worth noting that Nadal has 36 victories in ATP Masters tournaments, and he has won the Madrid title 5 times.

ATP 1000. Madrid. Clay. 2nd Round
Alex De Minaur (Australia, 11) - Rafael Nadal (Spain, 512) - 6:7 (6:8), 3:6.
