Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi admitted that losing Tashreeq Morris early in their 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns was a major setback. The striker was stretchered off in the 26th minute, forcing Ashley Du Preez to come on as a replacement.

Nabi on Morris’ Injury Impact

“He’s out maybe six, seven days,” Nabi told iDiski Times. “It hurt us a lot because he’s a striker that brings a lot to the team. He’s a good presser and puts defenders under pressure. After he came off, we saw their centre-backs were more comfortable on the ball.”

Nabi highlighted Morris’ ability to hold up play and create attacking opportunities: “He’s a classic number nine who gives the team time to get forward. When crosses come into the box, he’s someone who can finish them. His absence impacted our game plan a lot.”

Who Steps Up in Morris’ Absence?

With Morris managing just one goal in five appearances across the PSL and Nedbank Cup, Nabi will look to Glody Lilepo, Ranga Chivaviro, and Du Preez to step up and deliver in the attack.

Morris is set to miss Tuesday’s clash against Magesi FC at FNB Stadium, but he could return in time for Saturday’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final against Stellenbosch.

Chiefs, currently in eighth place, will need to regroup quickly as they aim to get back on track in both league and cup competitions.
