Nabi Admits Admiration for Sundowns Star After Chiefs Defeat

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi praised Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa following Amakhosi’s 1-0 defeat at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. Ribeiro’s stunning goal secured maximum points for the Brazilians, extending their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership standings.

Ribeiro’s Influence and PSL Player of the Year Debate

Ribeiro has been in sensational form this season, scoring 12 league goals and providing six assists for Miguel Cardoso’s star-studded team. When asked if the Brazilian is a frontrunner for the PSL Player of the Season award, Nabi remained noncommittal but admitted he would love to have Ribeiro in his squad.

“Lucas Ribeiro is a player every coach dreams of having. He is a difference-maker,” Nabi told the media. “He also brings great value to the league, making it more attractive for sponsors and fans.”

Chiefs’ Missed Opportunities and Sundowns’ Dominance

Chiefs started the game brightly, creating early pressure, with Mduduzi Shabalala missing a golden chance. But Ribeiro's strong left-footed goal broke the stalemate and gave Sundowns the lead at halftime. The reigning champions gained confidence in the second half as the Chiefs attempted to equalize but were unable to overcome a tough Sundowns defense.

With this victory, Sundowns increased their lead at the top of the table by 18 points and solidified their hold on an eighth straight league championship.
