"My father advised me to get a normal job": Ralf Schumacher on his racing career
Formula 1 star Ralf Schumacher has opened up about living in the shadow of his legendary brother, Michael Schumacher. In an interview with The Times, the German driver revealed that even his father viewed him as a failure compared to Michael.
Ralf admitted he always felt people doubted his abilities as a racer because of constant comparisons to his brother. Even their father believed Ralf could never match Michael's success and urged him to pursue a different career.
"He wanted me to be a chef, to have a proper job and not motor racing, because you cannot make money with it. Even when Michael was in Formula 1, my father said: ‘No, no, forget it. He was so lucky. One is amazing already, but two [sons] will never make it. So do something else,'" Ralf shared.
As a Formula 1 driver, Ralf won six Grand Prix races—an impressive achievement but incomparable to his brother’s record. Michael Schumacher remains a seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, a record that still stands in the sport.
