"Must play more cold-blooded". Ten Hag - on Manchester United's disappointing defeat
Manchester United suffered a disappointing defeat to Brighton (1-2), conceding a decisive goal in stoppage time.
Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag spoke to BBC Match of the Day after the loss.
"When we needed at least a draw, we could have even won if we consider the goal after the incident with Joshua Zirkzee. It was difficult. At that moment, Zirkzee was on the decline. It was hard to avoid conceding.
It’s tough, but we also had many chances to score a second goal. We showed resilience and defended well. We had opportunities to score more goals. It’s frustrating when you don’t score and then end up losing.
We conceded two avoidable goals. We need to be more composed in both our and the opponent’s penalty areas and act more effectively as a team. It’s a shame that we leave here without any points. We need to withstand the setback and come back stronger for the next big game.
We have good potential, but we need to continue until the end. The game ends when the referee blows the whistle three times. That’s something we didn’t do well [in this game], so we need to improve our game management,” said the coach after the match.
Ten Hag’s team has three points after two matches. Brighton has won both of its opening games of the Premier League season and remains unbeaten.
