Municipal and Antigua GFC Set for Historic Final in Guatemala’s Clausura 2025

Guatemala’s Clausura 2025 will crown its champion in a high-stakes final between Municipal and Antigua GFC, two of the country’s most competitive sides. As reported by ESPN and Infobae, the first leg will be held Thursday, May 15, at 7:00 p.m. local time at Estadio Pensativo, while the decisive return leg is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at 3:00 p.m. at Estadio El Trébol in Guatemala City.
Municipal, who topped the regular season with 35 points, edged Marquense in the semifinals. Antigua finished third with 32 points and convincingly defeated Cobán Imperial. This will mark their fourth final clash, with Antigua having won two of the previous three, most recently in 2017.
The final also features a notable coaching reunion: Municipal’s Sebastián Bini and Antigua’s Mauricio Tapia were once teammates at Municipal 24 years ago. Tapia has since led Antigua to three league titles, while Bini has two championships with the Rojos.
Tickets for the return leg at El Trébol are already sold out, with 8,000 fans expected in attendance. Municipal will be chasing its 33rd league title, aiming to surpass archrivals Comunicaciones, while Antigua look to lift their fifth championship. With silverware and legacy on the line, the stage is set for one of Guatemala’s most compelling finals in recent memory.
