The Indian Premier League season is in full swing, and the race for the playoff spots is nearing its conclusion. However, a controversy has now emerged involving the Mumbai Indians captain.

Details: According to Reuters, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has been fined 10% of his match fee. He has also been docked one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

The captain’s offence was related to the “improper use of cricket equipment” during the 10th over of Wednesday’s match at Eden Gardens, where he forcefully knocked the stumps’ caps while returning to his run-up.

The 32-year-old player, in turn, admitted to violating Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee.

Mumbai Indians lost to Kolkata by four wickets. Mumbai sit ninth in the table and are already out of playoff contention. Kolkata still have a chance, but must win their final match and hope for results elsewhere to go their way.
