Mozambique Thrash Sudan 4-1 to Strengthen Position in AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

Mozambique picked up a big three points in Group J of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after beating Sudan 4-1 in a dominant second-half display.

The Mambas made the breakthrough in the 24th minute when Witi found the back of the net after an evenly contested opening period.

Sudan struggled to respond after the break, and Mozambique quickly took control of the match. Chamito doubled the hosts' advantage shortly after the restart before Guima added a third goal in the 58th minute.

Chamito then completed his brace just four minutes later, putting Mozambique 4-0 ahead and effectively putting the result beyond doubt.

Sudan managed to pull one goal back late in the game when Yaser Hamed converted a penalty in the 88th minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

The victory moves Mozambique onto four points from their opening two matches, following their 1-1 draw with Senegal on Matchday One.

Sudan remain on three points after two matches, having opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Ethiopia. Senegal have also moved to four points after their win over Ethiopia.
