Mourinho under fire: accused of racism after Istanbul derby
Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray played out a 0-0 draw in the Turkish Süper Lig derby yesterday, but the post-match fallout has sparked major controversy.
Details: Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho is facing accusations of racism following his comments in the post-match press conference. Here’s what he said about Galatasaray’s coaching staff:
Quote:
"Their entire coaching staff was jumping around like monkeys. If the match had been officiated by a Turkish referee, he would have immediately shown a yellow card, and I would have had to substitute a player in the first minute."
Following these remarks, Galatasaray has filed an official complaint against Mourinho, accusing him of racism. The club also stated that this is not the first time the Portuguese coach has made derogatory comments about the Turkish people.
The derby was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić.
Reminder: During the match, Fenerbahçe fans threw flares into the Galatasaray stands, further escalating tensions in the heated rivalry.
