Mothobi Mvala Nears Comeback as Cardoso Rages Over Fixture Scheduling
Mamelodi Sundowns hard hitting defender, Mothobi Mvala's on the verge of returning to action after a lengthy knee injury that sidelined him for 3 months. His agent, Andrews Matjila, confirmed that Mvala's now 90% recovered and could make his return in the coming weeks.
Mvala’s Road to Recovery
The 30-year-old sustained a knee injury during a CAF Champions League match against AS FAR in Dec 2024 which forced him off the pitch after just 20 minute. Since then, he's missed crucial games in the Betway Premiership, Champions League and Nedbank Cup. He's been training with the squad since February and his return is imminent.
“It was setback but he’s fighter. The recovery process's gone well and he should be back on the field in 2 to 3 weeks,” Matjila told FARPost.
Cardoso’s Fixture Concerns
Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso's voiced his frustration over the scheduling of their Betway Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates, set for Sunday. The match falls just days before Bafana Bafana’s World Cup qualifiers, with a large contingent of Sundowns players called up.
“For example, it’s not good that this match was put on Sunday because the players will go to the national team immediately after the match. Players need rest. They aren't machines.” Cardoso stated.
Sundowns have contributed key players such as Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana and Teboho Mokoena to Hugo Broos 23 man squad. Cardoso emphasized the importance of balancing club and international duties, urging better scheduling to protect player welfare.
