Morocco remains the host country for the 2026 African Women's Cup of Nations, says Motesepe
The Confederation of African Football has announced that it is maintaining its commitment to Morocco to host the tournament scheduled for 17 March to 3 April 2026.
This announcement was made following the CAF Executive Committee meeting held on Friday 13 February in Dar es Salaam. In his press conference after the meeting, CAF President Patrice Motsepe dispelled any doubts surrounding the organisation of the 2026 African Women's Cup of Nations.
While communications from South Africa had cast uncertainty on the host country, the CAF's message is clear. Morocco, which was initially designated to host the tournament, will do so. Patrice Motsepe affirmed that the organisation remains committed to Morocco at this stage. However, he indicated that countries such as South Africa had expressed a desire to host the competition but with different dates. This proposal is not feasible, as the tournament is a qualifier for the 2027 Women's World Cup. Consequently, the country and the competition schedule remain unchanged.
