Morocco: Bouchra Karboubi Ends Her Career

This is a categorical decision from the Moroccan referee. Bouchra Karboubi has announced her decision to permanently leave the world of refereeing. Her definitive retirement from the field was announced in a letter addressed to the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa.

After a 25-year career, Karboubi represented Morocco in several international and continental competitions. This difficult decision, she says, is motivated by internal practices that hindered her progress and brought a premature end to her career.

« Mr. President, it is with deep regret that I find myself today confronted with practices emanating from the director of the National Technical Directorate of Refereeing and its members. These actions have disrupted my career path, tarnished my past and future achievements, and ultimately destroyed an entire project. This has led me to make the decision to end a career to which I have dedicated 25 years of my life », Bouchra Karboubi stated in her letter.

Karboubi, considered one of Africa’s most respected referees, is not on the list of officials for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite the tournament being held in Morocco. As a reminder, the Moroccan referee was named African Referee of the Year at the CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech.
