Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah opened his Trabzonspor scoring account in style, scoring twice as the Turkish side secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday.

Salah needed just nine minutes to find the net. The 34-year-old reacted quickest to a rebound after the goalkeeper’s save came back off the crossbar before firing home to give Trabzonspor the lead.

He doubled the advantage in the second half after combining with Ernest Muçi inside the box before calmly finishing the move.

Salah was booked with 11 minutes remaining after being shown a yellow card for simulation following a challenge inside the penalty area.

The former Liverpool star thought he had completed his hat-trick in stoppage time when he found the empty net with a long-range effort from around 45 yards. However, the goal was ruled out for offside.

The brace marks Salah’s first goals for Trabzonspor since joining the Turkish club on a free transfer this summer.

He left Liverpool after nine years at Anfield, having scored 257 goals for the club. Sunday’s match was his third appearance for Trabzonspor after coming off the bench against Kasimpasa last weekend and starting in their Europa League play-off first-leg defeat to Ferencvaros.
