During the next winter transfer window, Mohamed Abdelmonem, an Egyptian defender, might see a sea change in his career with Nice. According to reports, the French team may limit Abdelmonem's playing time by acquiring Lilian Brassier, a Marseille loanee from Brest, to strengthen their defense.

Abdelmonem moved to Nice last summer from Al Ahly for €4.2 million, signing a deal that runs until 2028. Although he had a strong start, playing in nine matches (starting eight of them), ongoing injuries and struggles to adjust to European football, including language challenges, have slowed his development.

The potential arrival of Brassier, a 25-year-old defender, could increase competition in Nice’s backline. This development has fueled speculation about Abdelmonem’s possible return to Al Ahly, especially as the Egyptian club prepares for the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Reports suggest Abdelmonem is considering a return to Al Ahly, where he might play an important part in their Group A matches against Inter Miami, Palmeiras, and Porto.

Nice is in sixth place in Ligue 1 with 24 points after 15 games but is not doing well in Europe, sitting second-to-last in their UEFA Europa League group. The next few months could decide Abdelmonem’s future, as both Nice and Al Ahly are closely watching his situation.
