Mixed Emotions at the Summit as Rivers United Edge Past Wikki
Rivers United moved two points clear at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League with a 1-0 home win over Wikki Tourists, but head coach Finidi George admitted he was left with “mixed feelings” after the game.
Taofeek Otaniyi scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, delicately lobbing the goalkeeper after meeting a cross from Samson Obi. The strike secured Rivers United’s ninth win of the season, extended their unbeaten run to nine matches, and earned them an 11th clean sheet in 16 games.
Despite the strong numbers, Finidi said the performance lacked control. “For me, quite mixed feelings… I can't really say where the game was moving to,” he said, adding that “there was no steady pace.”
Rivers United now turn their attention to a rescheduled clash against Barau FC in Kano on December 19.
