Miljevic Linked to River Move, Praises Gallardo as “One of the Best in the World”

After a shocking quarterfinal exit against Platense, River Plate is already scouting reinforcements — and Huracán’s Matko Miljevic has emerged as a potential target. As reported by Minuto Neuquén, the attacking midfielder addressed the rumors in an interview with TNT Sports, expressing pride at being linked to Marcelo Gallardo. “When I hear Gallardo wants me, who for me is one of the best coaches in the world, it means I must be doing something right,” he said.
Miljevic, 23, has impressed with Huracán, who now face Independiente in the semifinals. The former Argentinos Juniors talent was nearly signed by River in 2021, but a contract dispute halted the move, sending him to MLS instead. Now, he views a potential transfer to River as a “step forward” in his career.
Meanwhile, River prepares to face Universitario of Peru with hopes of topping their Libertadores group. A FIFA Club World Cup appearance in the U.S. also looms. However, the club’s persistent failure in penalty shootouts — eight straight eliminations — remains a sore spot. According to ESPN, the team doesn't regularly practice penalties, an oversight that continues to haunt River when it matters most.
