Details: In his new autobiography La Mia Vita Sempre al Centro, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has unveiled shocking details about his 2018 departure from Manchester United. According to the Armenian, José Mourinho would blatantly ignore him during training sessions, but every evening would message him on WhatsApp with the same request.
He wouldn’t speak to me during training, but every night he’d send a WhatsApp message: Miki, please leave. I always replied with the same copied text: I’ll leave if I find the right team, otherwise I’ll wait until summer, Mkhitaryan recalled.
According to the midfielder, as January approached, the tone of the nightly messages changed: Miki, please leave. Then I can bring in Alexis Sanchez. In the end, that's exactly what happened: Mkhitaryan moved to Arsenal in a swap deal that saw Sanchez head to Old Trafford.
Interestingly, the player and manager would cross paths again later: in Rome, they managed to put their past differences behind them and went on to win the Conference League together. Now Mourinho is in charge at Real, while the 37-year-old Mkhitaryan continues to play for Inter, having extended his contract for the 2026/27 season. However, the Armenian admits this deal might be his last as a professional.
It's worth noting that last season, Mkhitaryan made 34 appearances for the Nerazzurri across all competitions and remains a crucial part of the Milan club's rotation.
