Mikel Obi Denies Claim He Called Toni Kroos “Average” at Real Madrid

Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has dismissed reports suggesting he described Toni Kroos as an average midfielder during his time at Real Madrid.

The controversy surfaced after comments allegedly linked to Mikel circulated online, prompting Kroos to respond directly. The former Germany international reposted the quote on his Instagram story with a pointed caption: “And why didn’t you play for Real Madrid?”

However, Mikel has firmly denied ever making such remarks. Speaking in response to the claims, the former Chelsea midfielder clarified that the quote was fabricated and insisted he holds immense respect for Kroos and his former teammates.

“That’s an absolute lie,” Mikel said via the Obi One Podcast. “To say that Modric, Carvajal, Kroos, or Nacho aren’t good enough is unbelievable. I would never say something like that, and I never will,” he added with a laugh.
