Miguel Terceros Leads Bolivia to Crucial Win Over Chile: "We've Deserved This"

After weeks out of the spotlight due to a controversy involving alleged racism in Brazil, Miguel Terceros returned to the headlines for the right reasons. The young Bolivian winger starred in his national team’s 2-0 win over Chile in El Alto, becoming Bolivia’s top scorer in the World Cup qualifiers with six goals.
“Happy with the win—we’ve deserved this for a long time,” said Terceros, who plays for América-MG in Brazil. The result ended a six-match winless streak for Bolivia, which included two frustrating home draws.
At just 21 and in his debut World Cup qualifying campaign, Terceros has exceeded expectations. Two of his six goals came against Chile—one in each leg—putting him among the top scorers in the competition.
“This win keeps us in the mix. We’ll be watching the other results closely. Our dream is still alive,” he added. Bolivia still has two games to play: away against Colombia on September 9 and at home against Brazil on September 14. Their fate will likely depend on both their own performances and results elsewhere. The intercontinental playoff will take place in March 2026. For now, Bolivia’s hopes remain intact.
