Miguel Borja's future could see him leave River Plate, as revealed by La Página Millonaria. The Colombian striker, whose contract with the Argentine powerhouse expires at the end of the year, is among the names being considered by América de México to bolster their attacking line.

At 32 years old, Borja is experiencing an inconsistent spell at River following a lackluster first half of 2025. With just 6 goals in 24 appearances (9 as a starter), the Colombian has lost prominence in Marcelo Gallardo's plans, especially after the arrival of Sebastián Driussi and the established partnership with Agustín Colidio. His current performance contrasts sharply with his form in the first half of 2024, when he netted 25 goals in 28 matches.

América de México, seeking to strengthen their attack, views Borja as a viable option as a "box striker". Although no formal offer has been made yet, América’s interest adds uncertainty to Borja's situation. Aware that the player is unlikely to renew his contract, River would be open to negotiating his departure if an offer close to $4 million—his release clause—is presented.

José Zúñiga, the top scorer from Xolos de Tijuana, is also on the Mexican club's radar. However, Borja brings international experience and leadership, attributes that could tip the scales in his favor.

In Núñez, his departure wouldn't come as a surprise. Signed in 2022 for $8 million to replace Julián Álvarez, Borja initially made a strong impact but struggled to adapt to the tactical systems implemented by Martín Demichelis and later Gallardo. In total, he has scored 60 goals in 135 games—a respectable tally but insufficient to guarantee his long-term stay.

América's transfer window will remain open until September due to the Leagues Cup and other international commitments, providing ample time to advance negotiations.
