Mighty Mukuru Wanderers triumphed 1-0 over Mzuzu City Hammers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday to lift the 2024 Castel Challenge Cup.

The only goal of the match came in the 47th minute when Cameroonian striker Thierry Sama Tajong, after coming off the bench, pounced on a loose ball and scored from close range. His goal broke the deadlock and handed Wanderers their first silverware of the season.

The game was tied at zero at halftime, but some important changes made by the temporary coach, Bob Mpinganjira, helped Wanderers take control. His son, Wisdom Mpinganjira, came in to replace Francisco Madinga, and this changed the game in Wanderers' favor.

In the semifinals, Hammers caused a big upset by beating FCB Nyasa Big Bullets 1-4 in a penalty shootout. Meanwhile, Wanderers easily won against Panthers FC with a 3-0 score.

This final game ended the soccer season in Malawi.
