Michael Owen spotted in Cairo filming sequel to popular Egyptian movie
Former Liverpool, Real Madrid, and England star Michael Owen has been seen in Cairo participating in the filming of El Hareefa 2, reports The Sun. The movie is a sequel to the original El Hareefa, which ranked among the top ten highest-grossing films in Egypt last year.
The storyline follows the journey of Majed, a teenager passionate about football. Owen’s involvement in the project was revealed through a movie poster that quickly went viral on social media. The film’s release is scheduled for December 4.
Owen has reportedly been in Egypt since November 4. Social media users have shared photos of the Ballon d'Or winner posing in front of Egypt’s iconic landmarks, including the Pyramids of Giza.
This isn’t Owen’s first foray into acting—he made a cameo appearance in the 2007 movie Goal II: Living the Dream.
Since retiring from football, Owen has gained recognition as an avid horse racing enthusiast. The 2001 Ballon d'Or recipient owns a stable, and one of his horses triumphed in the Chester Cup this May. Alongside his equestrian pursuits, Owen works as a football pundit for TNT Sports.
