Mexican footballer Rodrigo Huescas has been sentenced to 20 days in jail in Denmark after being caught driving at 111 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The FC Copenhagen player was also stripped of his driving license, although the duration of the suspension was not disclosed,. The club released a statement confirming the incident and stressing the responsibility players have as public figures.

“I made a big mistake and apologize for showing such poor judgment,” Huescas said in a statement issued by the Mexican national team. “I deeply regret my actions and accept the consequences without hesitation.” He also acknowledged his role as a role model, saying he failed to meet that standard.

FC Copenhagen condemned the incident, calling it “completely unacceptable” and emphasizing the importance of adhering to Danish law. “As a footballer representing the club, Rodrigo has a responsibility to set an example,” the club added.

The 21-year-old right-back is expected to miss at least four matches during his sentence—against Randers, Nordsjaelland, Brondby, and Midtjylland—before returning for the April 21 match against Aarhus. No further comments will be made by the player or the club.
