The Mexican national team has formally requested Concacaf to change their hotel accommodation in Los Angeles just days before the start of the 2025 Gold Cup. The request stems from growing concerns about the safety of players and staff amid ongoing protests related to the migrant crisis affecting the city.

As reported by Alexis Fernández, the team’s current hotel is located near SoFi Stadium, where Mexico will play its opening match against the Dominican Republic this Saturday. Given that the surrounding area has experienced significant unrest and demonstrations, the proximity to these protest zones has heightened worries among the team and officials.

The Mexican Football Federation has urged Concacaf to approve the change quickly, but the short timeframe before the tournament’s start could complicate logistics for the organizing body. Ensuring the safety and well-being of the players and coaching staff is the top priority.

In addition to the formal request, head coach Javier Aguirre spoke publicly about the difficult situation faced by Mexican migrants and the wider community during this tense period in the United States. Aguirre expressed his solidarity, saying, “It’s not just football—it’s about the country. Wherever we are, being Mexican moves us deeply. We have a responsibility to represent our nation with pride.”

He added, “My duty as a Mexican is to bring joy to the Mexican people through football. The players give their all, breaking their hearts on the field, and we want to make sure our community feels represented and supported during these challenging times.”

With the Gold Cup set to begin imminently, all eyes are on how Concacaf will respond to Mexico’s urgent security concerns and whether adjustments will be made to ensure a safe environment for the players and fans alike.
