Former Werder Bremen footballer Mesut Özil will not be invited to the farewell match of the German club's former star Diego due to his alleged links with the Grey Wolves, a Turkish far-right group banned in some countries. According to Bild, Werder's management decided not to invite Özil to the event because of this.

“We have agreed with Diego not to invite Mesut due to his recent actions, which do not represent the club's values,” a Werder representative told the German publication.

It should be noted that Özil is suspected of having ties with the Grey Wolves due to his tattoo of a grey wolf with three crescents. This symbol is often associated with far-right extremism. In the past, the Grey Wolves have been implicated in several high-profile crimes, including the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in 1981.

Journalists from the Telegraph attempted to contact Özil's representatives to inquire about the meaning of the tattoo but received no response.

Recall that Özil played for Werder Bremen from 2008 to 2010. During this period, he appeared in 108 matches, scoring 16 goals and providing 54 assists.
