Messi Uncertain About Inter Miami Future After Heavy Derby Defeat

Lionel Messi left fans and media speculating after Inter Miami’s 3-0 loss to Orlando City, when he responded bluntly to a question about his contract renewal. “I don’t know anything,” he told Apple TV, per TyC Sports. His current deal runs through December 2025.
Since arriving in South Florida in July 2023 following a turbulent stint at PSG, Messi has become the club’s all-time top scorer with 44 goals and 21 assists in just 55 matches. He also delivered Inter its first two trophies: the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield. But with the team now sixth in the Eastern Conference and reeling from a Concacaf Champions League exit, uncertainty looms.
Head coach Javier Mascherano commented as well: “Signing Jordi [Alba] for two more years shows stability. We hope to have news on Leo soon, as he’s crucial for the club and for MLS.”
Messi also voiced frustration with referee Guido González after a controversial backpass incident led to a goal. “The ref told me he didn’t know the rule,” Messi said. “Things like this keep happening. The league should look into it.”
