Messi Sets Inter Miami Scoring Record and Raises the Bar for Future Stars

Lionel Messi continues to rewrite the history of Inter Miami, and he’s doing it at record pace. After just 47 appearances across MLS, Leagues Cup, U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions Cup, the Argentine legend has already scored 40 goals, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer. That figure surpasses Leonardo Campana’s 32 goals in 100 matches and Gonzalo Higuaín’s 29 in 70.
Messi’s last strike came against Toronto, cementing his status at the top of the team’s scoring chart. Luis Suárez is also rising fast, with 29 goals in 48 games since joining from Brazil’s Grêmio.
Inter Miami’s journey in Major League Soccer began only in 2020, so it’s no surprise that its list of legendary scorers is still forming. Higuaín was the first major figure, arriving from Juventus and quickly delivering 29 goals and 11 assists in his MLS tenure.
The current roster still features several players with potential to chase Messi’s record. Alongside Suárez are Jordi Alba, Robert Taylor, Benjamin Cremaschi, Diego Gómez and Matías Rojas, among others.
But it’s Messi who has set the standard—both in numbers and in influence. Anyone dreaming of leaving a lasting legacy in South Florida knows what the benchmark is. To be a legend at Inter Miami, you’ll have to catch Messi first.
