A true nightmare for fans of Brazilian club Corinthians and the Netherlands national team. Barely recovered from one injury, the star Dutch forward Memphis Depay has found himself back in the treatment room.
Details: According to Central do Timão, the striker has picked up yet another injury, casting serious doubt on his participation in the club’s upcoming matches just ahead of the World Cup kickoff.
The cruel irony is that Depay had only just fully recovered from a thigh injury and rejoined full training. But during another session with Timão, the Dutchman was unlucky in a challenge and hurt his other leg. The club's medical staff is working around the clock to assess the exact recovery timeline, but the outlook for the coming days is far from optimistic.
This frustrating setback means Depay is guaranteed to miss at least the next two crucial matches for Corinthians. He will definitely be sidelined for the high-stakes Libertadores Cup clash against Uruguay’s Peñarol, and will also miss the Serie A fixture against Atlético Mineiro. The main goal for the Dutch striker now is to try to recover in time for the match against Argentina’s Platense, scheduled for next week.
Reminder: Portugal national team head coach Roberto Martínez explained why he left a young talented player out of the World Cup squad.
