Famed British pop star Robbie Williams may not be a connoisseur of German football, but during his concert in local Gelsenkirchen, he tried to pay a compliment to the hometown club Schalke. Here’s how that played out.

Instead of saying “Schalke,” Williams declared his love for... football club Scheisse, which in German means “crap.” Social media is already abuzz with jokes that Borussia Dortmund—the arch rival of Schalke—should send the singer a thank-you gift.

Despite performing in Gelsenkirchen for the third time, the Brit still hasn’t managed to pronounce the city’s name correctly, even asking, “Who came up with this?” He’s doing his best to nail “Pottstadt,” but it’s just not happening. The furthest he can get is “Gelschenkorken”—his tongue simply won’t cooperate.
