American track and field athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won the gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the Olympic Games.

The American runner secured first place by completing the distance in 50.37 seconds, setting a new world record in this discipline.

Sydney improved her previous record (50.65 seconds), set just this June, by nearly 0.3 seconds.

The silver medal went to fellow American Anna Cockrell, while the bronze was claimed by Femke Bol from the Netherlands.

McLaughlin has now won her third Olympic gold medal. At the Tokyo Games, she was victorious in the 400m hurdles and as part of the U.S. team in the 4x400m relay.
