Mats Hummels’ ex-wife opens up about what destroyed their marriage

Cathy Fischer, the ex-wife of AS Roma defender Mats Hummels, revealed that her struggle with depression was the main factor that led to the breakdown of their marriage, reports Daily Mail. Speaking at a special BILD summit focused on women's health, she candidly shared her personal journey battling mental health issues.

Fischer admitted that her depression made it difficult for her to provide Hummels with the support and affection he needed.

“I had conversations with my ex-husband at the time, of course, and I often said: “I'm sorry that I'm acting so strangely at the moment, but I'm just not feeling well. I can't show you love right now”” she recalled.

Fischer has since overcome her struggles, completed her treatment, and no longer takes medication.

Hummels and Fischer met when they were both 19 years old. The couple got married in 2015, and three years later, they welcomed a son. However, they officially separated in 2022.

Currently, Hummels is in a relationship with Victoria's Secret model Nicola Cavanis, who joined him at the Ballon d'Or ceremony on October 28, 2024. Cavanis is 11 years younger than the German defender.

This season, Hummels has made only one appearance for AS Roma.
