Mastantuono’s Transfer to Real Madrid Hits a Snag Despite Full Agreement
Franco Mastantuono is on the verge of becoming the most expensive player ever sold by an Argentine club, yet his highly anticipated move to Real Madrid is still on hold. As reported by TyC Sports, both clubs have reached full agreement on the $45 million transfer fee and payment structure — but the timing of the move remains in dispute.
Real Madrid wants to bring in the 17-year-old immediately in July, and the player is reportedly on board. River Plate, however, insists that unless the full release clause is paid in one lump sum, Mastantuono should remain in Buenos Aires at least until December — or ideally through June 2026.
The Spanish club is trying to avoid triggering the release clause due to financial fair play constraints, preferring an installment-based deal. But under River’s terms, such an arrangement would delay the player’s departure until after the Club World Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain has effectively stepped aside, aware of the teenager’s firm desire to join the reigning European champions. For now, what is certain is that Mastantuono will play the Club World Cup with River, starting June 17 against Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds. If the deal is finalized in time, the tournament may serve as his farewell appearance in red and white.
