Mascherano: "Today The Gap Was Too Big" After Inter Miami's Heavy Defeat

Javier Mascherano didn’t try to sugarcoat the result. After Inter Miami’s 4-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup round of 16, the manager acknowledged the gulf in quality: “Clearly, the difference between the teams showed.”
The U.S. side, which features Lionel Messi and other high-profile signings, struggled to compete against the European champions. Still, Mascherano praised his players’ effort: “I’m very proud of my guys, of the work they’ve done throughout the tournament.”
According to reports from DAZN, the Argentine coach highlighted the team’s mindset despite their limitations on the night: “The difference lies in trying to play football — we showed that in every match. And above all, I’m proud of them.”
Looking ahead to the remainder of the season back in MLS, Mascherano stressed the importance of unity: “When we’re committed and work together, we can compete. Football gives you that chance, regardless of the gap.”
He added: “Today, the gap was simply too big. We faced probably the best team in the world, led by an incredible coach. But until the final whistle, we tried to hold our heads high. Proud of the players.”
