Martínez Ties Racing’s All-Time Record with Stunning Goal vs. Fortaleza
Adrián "Maravilla" Martínez delivered once again for Racing Club with a spectacular last-minute winner that earned a 1-0 victory over Fortaleza in the final matchday of Copa Libertadores Group E. According to TyC Sports, his acrobatic strike not only secured three points but also etched his name in the club’s history books, as he matched Norberto Raffo’s record of 15 goals in Conmebol competitions.
Martínez’s dramatic overhead kick deep into stoppage time broke the deadlock and sent the Estadio Presidente Perón into celebration. The forward, who joined from Instituto, has now tallied 15 goals in continental tournaments—twelve of them curiously scored against Chilean and Brazilian teams. He’s netted seven goals against Chilean clubs (Coquimbo Unido, Huachipato, Colo-Colo) and five against Brazilian sides (Botafogo, Bragantino, Cruzeiro, Athletico Paranaense, and Fortaleza). His other goals came against Sportivo Luqueño and Atlético Bucaramanga.
In doing so, Martínez joins Norberto Raffo—hero of Racing’s 1967 Libertadores and Intercontinental titles—atop the club’s all-time scorers list in international competition. Behind them are legends like Juan Carlos Cárdenas (12), Gustavo Bou (10), Roger Martínez (9), and Diego Milito (7).
With Racing through to the Round of 16 and Gustavo Costas praising the team’s relentless mentality, "Maravilla" continues to build a legacy few would have predicted when his journey began.
