Marseille's interim head coach, Jean-Louis Gasset, will leave the team after the season ends, prompting the club to actively search for his replacement.

According to L'Equipe, Marseille's management has made Lille's head coach, Paulo Fonseca, their top priority. Fonseca's contract with his current club expires in June, and he has no intention of extending it as he's already seeking a new club.

Earlier reports suggested that Fonseca is also on AC Milan's shortlist as a replacement for Stefano Pioli.

After 30 rounds in Ligue 1, Marseille is currently in eighth place. The team started the season under the guidance of Marcelino García Toral, who was dismissed in September. Gennaro Gattuso was appointed in his place but was also dismissed at the end of February.

In the Europa League, Marseille has reached the semi-finals and will face Atalanta.

Before joining Lille, Paulo Fonseca was the head coach of Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Braga, and Porto.
