Marcelo Sarvas is back with Liga Deportiva Alajuelense. The Costa Rican club announced that the former Brazilian midfielder will join the men’s first team staff as assistant to head coach Óscar Ramírez for the upcoming 2025 Apertura tournament.

The 43-year-old is no stranger to the club or to Ramírez. In 2011, Sarvas played a key role in Alajuelense’s back-to-back league titles under the same manager. His return marks a full-circle moment for a player who left a lasting impact during his short yet successful stint with the team.

After retiring from professional football in 2018, Sarvas transitioned into coaching in the United States. He worked with the youth systems of both Colorado Rapids and LA Galaxy, and later managed Galaxy’s second team between 2022 and 2023.

A former player for Corinthians, AIK, and three MLS clubs —LA Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, and DC United— Sarvas now returns to Alajuelense to begin a new chapter on the sidelines, strengthening the club’s vision of continuity and leadership.
