Marcelino reveals the reason for Pape Gueye’s absence
With the World Cup just a few weeks away, Villarreal are taking a cautious approach to managing the fitness of their Senegalese international.
Pape Gueye has not played in Villarreal’s last two La Liga matches. The Senegalese midfielder has been sidelined without any reason being given. However, the Villarreal manager has explained the reason behind the player’s absence.
At a press conference, Marcelino explained that the Senegalese player had felt some muscle discomfort during the last training session. However, the club does not wish to take any risks that could aggravate Pape Gueye’s condition in the run-up to the World Cup.
He was due to play, but he felt a slight muscle strain during the last training session. We carried out tests and decided not to take any risks. The World Cup is approaching. If all goes well, he will be available to face Sevilla.
