Manqoba Mngqithi: Returning to Golden Arrows Was a Decision from the Heart

Manqoba Mngqithi, the head coach of Golden Arrows, has opened up about his decision to return to the team that gave him his first big break in coaching, despite receiving offers from abroad. Mngqithi, who left Mamelodi Sundowns in December following a string of inconsistent results, shared his journey in an interview with iDiski Times. He spoke about his need for a break after years of intense work and how he ultimately chose to return to his roots.

Mngqithi revealed that while he was considering coaching opportunities outside South Africa, he decided to come back to Golden Arrows when they reached out for his help. He said, “Initially, I wanted to take a long break after over a decade of non-stop work. My years at Sundowns were incredibly demanding, and I felt I needed at least two months to recharge. He added, “While I was exploring opportunities abroad, Sis’ Mato Madlala reached out and asked me to return to Golden Arrows. I didn’t hesitate because she knows I always prioritize this team.”

The 53-year-old coach emphasized that his loyalty to Golden Arrows goes beyond his personal ambitions. “I am deeply grateful to this team. They gave me an invaluable opportunity when they appointed me as head coach for the first time, and that’s something I’ll never forget. I owe so much to Sis’ Mato and her late brother, Rocky. When she asked for my help, I felt it was my duty to be there, even if it meant putting other plans on hold.”

“I wouldn’t feel right if something happened to the team and I could have helped. That’s why I decided to return—it was a decision that came straight from the heart.”
