Kobbie Mainoo wrapped up his World Cup campaign without ever getting his chance on the pitch.

Details: England head coach Thomas Tuchel explained why the midfielder was left out of the squad for the third-place match against France.

According to the German manager, Mainoo suffered the injury during the team's final training session.

"Kobbie got injured in the last training session. He felt a sharp pain in his back," Tuchel said.

Because of the injury, the 21-year-old Manchester United midfielder missed the clash with France and finished the tournament without a single minute played. Before that, he remained on the bench for all seven of England's matches.

In Mainoo's absence, England defeated France 6-4 to claim the World Cup bronze medals.

It's worth noting that last season the midfielder made 30 appearances for Manchester United, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

Reminder: 60 years later, England claim World Cup medals.
