Manchester United key defender is out for more than a month
Manchester United player and Swedish national team member Victor Lindelöf was substituted during the victorious match against Chelsea (2:1) in early December. The head coach of the "Red Devils," Erik ten Hag, stated that the 29-year-old player underwent surgery to address an issue with his groin and provided an estimation for his recovery time. It has now been officially disclosed that Lindelöf will be absent for an extended period after missing the last three games against Bournemouth, Bayern, and Liverpool. The team's official statement indicates his absence for a little over a month, as he undergoes the necessary recovery process.
"Victor Lindelöf is unavailable for play. He underwent surgery, hence his absence for a couple of weeks. What happened? He had an issue, a personal one, and he needed to undergo surgery," ten Hag informed journalists during the Friday press conference.
Currently, Manchester United is adapting to the absence of three central defenders due to injuries: Harry Maguire remains sidelined due to groin problems, while Lisandro Martínez continues his recovery following foot surgery. Consequently, Johnny Evans and Raphaël Varane may retain their positions in the center of defense against West Ham, although ten Hag has the option to shift Luke Shaw inward and deploy Sergio Reguilón as the left-back.
